Ghostmail

outdoor installation & sonic archive

Terrain Exhibitions hosted by Hyde Park Art Center

Oct 1 – Nov 15, 2021

Ghostmail was a public installation which facilitates messages between the living and the dead. The last year has been filled with collective loss including the passing of my own partner in October of 2020.

This work acted as a container for the voices of the dead, a growing collection of recordings from various media and time in memorium for those who have passed.

Ghostmail delivered these recordings to the public via letters in mailboxes on-site which passers-by could access by opening the letters and scanning a QR code. Each QR code was linked to one recorded voice from the collection. Participants could also scan a code on a small mailbox which provided instructions on how to write/offer a message back.

“I find myself in a constant state of preservation: gathering letters, videos, and voice messages shared between us.” This installation serves as a growing, public sound archive to connect us to those we have lost.
